5 Software Recommendations for Working from Home

With most of us stuck working from home due to COVID-19, having effective software at your disposal has never been more vital to productivity. Here are 5 software platforms we highly recommend here at Setyl.

1. Google Drive

For: collaborative work

Google Drive is a file storage and synchronisation service that enables users to store and share files safely, and then access them from any P.C with the internet. We love it because it allows us to email very large files and provides each user with 15GB worth of free cloud storage. Another great feature is the Data Loss Prevention: Google Drive can scan files with sensitive information and block anyone outside your company or organisation from accessing that file.

It’s easy to use and the onboarding process is quick and painless - it’s no wonder over 1.5 billion people are already using G Drive!

2. Slack

For: internal communication

Slack is a proprietary business communication platform which offers topical chat rooms, group chats and private messaging. At Setyl HQ, we have a slack channel for general chat, one for web design, one for management members… and one just for dank memes. This helps keep separate conversations separate and makes it really easy to get the info you need on a certain topic/project. No more overlapping conversations or getting sidetracked - unlike those pesky email chains!

In addition, Slack integrates helpful third party services such as GitHub, Trello and HelpScout.

3. Calendly

For: scheduling meetings

Calendly makes scheduling meetings ridiculously simple.

Instead of a pointless back-and-forth email exchange, with Calendly the user simply creates a list of times that they are available and sends it to the person they wish to meet with, who selects the time slot that suits them best.

It’s easy to use and integrates with popular calendar apps such as Outlook, Google Calendar and iCloud.

4. Zoom

For: Video conferencing

Zoom is without doubt the best tool for video conferencing, thanks to its ease of use, reliability and seamless video conferencing experience. It offers HD video and audio meetings with screen sharing functionality and no limit on attendee numbers.

During these strange and uncertain times, video conferencing has been crucial to keeping businesses connected, and there isn’t a better one out there than Zoom.

5. Canva

For: Creating

Canva is a simple graphic design platform which can be used to create everything from presentations and posters to documents and social media graphics. The platform is very easy to use, with a large variety of templates, designs, images and icons. There is also a huge range of collaboration tools and animations - there’s even a design school which helps new users to learn the graphic design basics. Best of all, most of Canva’s functionality can be accessed for free.

You may be missing office life (or perhaps you’re not!) but working from home doesn’t have to mean a dip in productivity. Bring these tools into your business to ensure you don’t miss a beat while the world is upside down.
