Celebrating Setyl’s 5th birthday: Then, Now and Next

Five years in, we take a look back at our journey — and forward at where we’re heading next.
June 17, 2025

As we celebrate our 5th birthday, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the progress, lessons, and milestones that have shaped Setyl’s journey so far.

What began as a simple idea to solve a common pain point for IT Managers in 2020, has grown into a comprehensive platform supporting customers in over 30 countries and backed by a growing network of partners.

Here’s a look at where we started, where we are, and where we’re headed, as we strive to help IT teams streamline operations, cut costs and mitigate risks.

Then

Setyl was founded in June 2020, to address a problem our team had seen repeatedly and heard echoed by countless professionals: no one had an effective way to gain visibility over and manage IT equipment and software licenses.

There was the former employee of a major global bank who still had his old company laptop tucked away at the back of his closet, because no one asked for it back… The company that spent $30K a year on an unused subscription, because no one tracked it… The startup that couldn’t account for its IT assets during an acquisition… Or even the IT manager who needed a four-day course to learn how to use an overly complex IT management enterprise software, and was therefore defaulting to a spreadsheet as a tracker instead.

With hardware and software costs adding up to thousands of dollars per employee each year, combined with security risks and operational inefficiencies, the impact of poor tracking was clear.

Setyl set out to solve this by giving organizations a centralized IT asset management platform that’s easy to use by anyone.

Now

From its early days as a simple asset register, Setyl has evolved into a comprehensive IT asset management solution used by hundreds of companies across more than 30 countries, and supported by a global ecosystem of integration, service and reseller partners.

We’ve focused on supporting the modern IT manager with features that simplify daily workflows, uncover opportunities for cost savings, and support compliance and security needs

Over the past year, this has meant rolling out deeper automation, faster performance, and new capabilities — from vendor audit workflows and asset catalogs, to warranty finders, cost-per-employee reports and dozens of new out-of-the-box integrations — always with clarity and ease-of-use at the core.

Along the way, we’ve been honored to be recognized by the industry and our users alike, including as a High Performer in IT Asset Management with Highest User Adoption, an IT Manager’s Favourite, and a Quality Choice with Happiest Users, among other awards.

Next

Looking ahead, we’ll continue to focus on strengthening the three core modules of Setyl: People, Assets and Apps.

Upcoming improvements include onboarding kits, enhanced stock management functionalities, improved software usage monitoring and renewal tracking, and deeper insights to help IT managers gain complete visibility, streamline their day-to-day operations, cut costs and ensure compliance.

Christopher Batts, Co‑Founder and CEO at Setyl, expands on what’s next for the platform: “As we enter Setyl’s sixth year, we’re evolving the platform to support IT teams with their ever-growing responsibilities across systems, vendors, compliance, and cost management.

“A key part of this focus is deepening the App side of the platform, including helping organizations track software usage more effectively, reduce overlap, manage renewals with confidence, and negotiate more strategically.  At the same time, we’re continuing to strengthen our People and Asset modules, with improvements in onboarding workflows, stock visibility, and spend tracking.

“Each new development is driven by the needs and feedback of the IT community, and built to give teams greater visibility and control.”

“I’d also like to take this moment to thank our customers, partners, and supporters.

“Your trust, feedback, and collaboration have been at the heart of everything we’ve built over the past five years. We’re incredibly grateful for the role you’ve played in getting us here, and we’re looking forward to building the next chapter together.”
